'The Dive Bar' |
late 80's ?
The band was named after their rehearsal room - the downstairs bar at the Public Records Office in Kew.
Not so much a band as a loose collection of free spirits, drawn together by the shared love of
live music, even if it often sounded a bit 'Chas and Dave'.
For the first time in living memory, no conversations took place
that begun 'When we're famous...' or 'If we get a record deal...'. This was music for the fun of it.
No song was too cheesy or obscure. Where else could you hear a 'Grange Hill / Screen Test' medley?
Or how about 'My Old Man's A Dustman' followed by the Monochrome Set's 'Andiamo'? Or the Channel 4
theme tune (all four notes of it, strung out over half an hour)? |
